WHAT IS LIP BLUSHING?

Lip Blushing is a semi-permanent cosmetic tattoo treatment that deposits soft pigment into the lips using a specialized permanent makeup machine. The technique builds natural-looking layers of color to enhance your lip's shape, definition, and tone — delivering beautifully subtle results that look completely natural once healed. It's an ideal solution for clients who want to save time on their daily makeup routine, correct uneven lip color, or restore a youthful lip border.

HOW LONG WILL MY LIPS LOOK THIS GOOD?

Most clients enjoy beautiful results for 2–4 years. Longevity depends on your lip genetics, lifestyle, skin type, and sun exposure. A refresh appointment every 1–2 years helps maintain your desired look.

WILL LIP BLUSHING WORK FOR ME?

Lip Blushing is a great fit if you:

  • Want to save time in your daily beauty routine

  • Have uneven lip tone or asymmetry you'd like corrected

  • Want fuller-looking lips without injectables

  • Have lost lip color or definition over time

  • Have all skin types — Lip Blushing works well across all skin tones

Feel free to bring your favorite lipstick to your appointment as a color reference!

HOW MANY SESSIONS ARE NEEDED?

In most cases, one session is all that is needed. A touch-up may only be necessary if the treatment does not hold any pigment at all. Please review our Lip Blushing Touch-Up Policy in the Policies section below.

HOW LONG DOES THE PROCEDURE TAKE?

Plan for approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, including consultation.

WHO CANNOT GET THIS SERVICE?

This service is NOT available if you are:

  • ❌ Pregnant or nursing

  • ❌ Currently undergoing chemotherapy or cancer treatment

The following conditions may also affect candidacy — please discuss with us before booking:

  • Blood-thinning medications (e.g. Aspirin) or healing disorders

  • Diabetes — consult your doctor first

  • Keloid disorder, pacemaker, or major heart condition

  • Active viral infections, epilepsy, or hypertension

  • Skin irritations, psoriasis, eczema, or sunburn near the lip area

  • Botox within the past 2 weeks

  • Juvederm or other fillers within the past 4 weeks — lip filler must be fully settled before proceeding

  • Roaccutane, steroids, or skin-thinning medications

  • Shingles on the face (please wait several months before proceeding)

All other health concerns can be discussed during your consultation.

WHAT ABOUT COLD SORES?

This is important — if you have a history of cold sores (HSV-1), lip blushing can trigger an outbreak. Before your appointment, please consult your doctor about taking an antiviral prescription (such as Valacyclovir / Valtrex or Acyclovir / Zovirax) as a preventative measure starting right after your procedure.

If you do not have a history of cold sores, you're welcome to take antivirals as a precaution. If you prefer not to, you'll be asked to sign a waiver on the day of your appointment. Not everyone who gets lip blushing experiences cold sores — but we want to make sure you're informed and protected.

WHAT FACTORS AFFECT HOW LONG RESULTS LAST?

  • Cold sore history — outbreaks can affect pigment retention

  • Sun exposure — UV light fades pigment faster; apply SPF daily once healed

  • Skin cell turnover — slower regeneration = longer-lasting pigment

  • Color choice — lighter shades fade faster than deeper tones

  • Alcohol and blood thinners — avoid 24–48 hours before and after your procedure

  • Aftercare — following pre and post-care instructions is essential

HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE?

You must be 18 years or older. If under 18, please have a parent or guardian email us at LoAnnsBrowStudio@gmail.com.

IS THE STUDIO SAFE?

Yes. We use only single-use, disposable needles and supplies for every client — no exceptions. All stations are thoroughly disinfected after every appointment. Your safety is our top priority.

FAQ
Pre-Care
Pre-Care Instructions
(How to Prepare for Your Lip Blushing Appointment)

Please follow these steps carefully before your appointment to ensure the best possible results:

  1. Exfoliate your lips in the days leading up to your appointment using a gentle sugar scrub to remove dry skin.

  2. Apply Aquaphor or Vaseline to your lips every night for at least 3–5 days before your appointment to keep them hydrated.

  3. No lip injections or fillers for at least 3 months before your appointment. You may resume filler 2 weeks after the procedure.

  4. If you have a history of cold sores, consult your doctor about starting an antiviral prescription (Valacyclovir, Valtrex, or Acyclovir) right after your procedure as a preventative measure.

  5. Avoid alcohol for at least 24–48 hours before your appointment.

  6. Avoid blood-thinning medications (Aspirin, ibuprofen) 24–48 hours prior — consult your doctor first.

  7. No Retinol, AHAs, or BHAs near the lip area for at least 2 weeks before your appointment.

  8. Avoid intense sun exposure or tanning for 2 weeks prior to your procedure.

For your safety, if you are currently pregnant or breastfeeding, we cannot perform the procedure and will ask you to reschedule.

Post-Care
Post-Care Instructions
(How to Care for Your Lips After the Procedure)
  1. After your procedure, apply the provided lip ointment before bedtime. From the next day onward, apply ointment whenever your lips feel dry — keep them consistently moisturized throughout healing.

  2. Gently clean your lips after eating using a damp cotton pad to keep the area clean during the healing process.

  3. Do NOT overly extend your lips while healing — avoid big smiles, puckering, smoking, or pulling at the lip area.

  4. Do NOT pick, rub, or scratch healing skin — let it shed naturally.

  5. No lipstick or lip products near the area for at least 5–7 days post-procedure.

  6. Avoid spicy, salty, or acidic foods during the first week of healing (can irritate the healing skin).

  7. No swimming, saunas, or hot tubs for 7–10 days.

  8. Avoid direct sun exposure for 3–4 weeks. Once healed, apply SPF daily to maintain color.

  9. Avoid retinol, AHAs, BHAs, and exfoliating products near the lip area long-term.

  10. Signs of infection — contact your doctor immediately if you experience: Fever, abnormal swelling, pus, red lesions, hard raised tissue, or feeling of heat and cold waves.

Pre-Care
HEALING PROCESS
What to Expect During the Healing Process
  • Day 1: Lips appear swollen and the color is bolder and darker than the final result — this is completely normal.

  • Days 2–3: Swelling subsides. Lips may feel tight and dry.

  • Days 3–5: Natural shedding begins. Color appears lighter as fresh skin covers the pigment — this is temporary.

  • Days 5–7: Lips may look very light or patchy — do not be alarmed, this is part of the healing process.

  • Week 4–6: ✅ Lips are fully healed and true color is revealed.
